Meerabai Chanu won a gold medal in weightlifting

India’s women veteran Sichum Meerabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal on Thursday in the 21st Commonwealth Games. Chanu won the medal in women’s 48kg weightlifting competition on the first day of Commonwealth Games.
Chanu scored 86 runs in the snatch and got a medal in the clean and jerk with a score of 196, scoring 110 runs. Chanu’s personal best performance is in both Snatch and Clean and Junk. He also recorded the Commonwealth Games record in his name. Chanu achieved the silver medal in the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The silver medal of the competition remained in the name of Mary Hanitra of Mauritius. Earlier on Thursday, Guru Gobind Singh scored the first medal in the game in weightlifting. He was successful in achieving the silver medal in men’s 56kg weightlifting competition.
